Happy Mega Swag Bucks!

It's that day of the week again- Mega Swag Bucks day!  What is Mega Swag Bucks?

Mega Swag Bucks is every Friday when you have a much higher chance of winning large amounts of Swag Bucks with a search.

If you are wondering: What is Swag Bucks?
Swagbucks is an awesome site to join to earn a little extra money. I personally have earned almost $180 in Amazon gifts cards since joining about 10 months ago.

Swagbucks is a free search engine site that rewards you with Swag bucks for searching. You can then trade your Swag bucks in for Prizes in their store. My favorite Prize is a $5 Amazon gift card for 450 Swag bucks. It is easy to earn Swag bucks because you just use it as your search engine instead of your regular one (such as google.com or yahoo.com). I earn Swag bucks every day by simply going to Swagbucks and searching for the next site I am going to visit online, such as my email, ect..  Swagbucks is a great way earn a little extra to help out with paying for Christmas and Birthdays.

You can sign up with Swagbucks by going HERE and they will start you out with 30 Swagbucks.

If you are already signed up with Swag Bucks, you may find this post helpful: on how to get the most out of Swag Bucks.

Shopping Trip 10-7: Walgreens

Well, I had to go check out this Money Making Sinex deal at Walgreens.  When I got to Walgreens there was only 1 of the Nighttime Sinex and the box was damaged, so I decided to see if the DayQuil Sinex would produce the Register Reward and it did!  Here's what I got:

2 Vicks DayQuil Sinex Daytime Sinus Relief (20 count LiquiCaps) for $5 each
1 pack of Trident gum for $1.29 (quick filler so I could use a $3 R.R. I had)
I used (2) $4/1 any Sinex product coupons from the 9-26 P&G insert and a $3 R.R. that I already had.
I paid only .29 before tax and I got a $5 R.R. back!

There actually was signage up at my store about this deal.  The tag sign said it was only valid until 10-9, so if you want this deal you had better hurry!

There may be people you know who would benefit from some of the information here- you can suggest it to friends if you click on the link on Facebook right below the profile picture.

If you don't see a sign for this up at your store you may want to ask the cashier to check the price for you, to make sure they are $5 each.  If so, they should produce the $5 R.R.

Possible Colgate Deal At Charleston Walgreens

I am not sure if this toothpaste is still available, but I though I would let you know about this deal in case you are in the Charleston, Illinois area.  When I was at that Walgreens the other day, I saw a bunch of Colgate Toothpaste on clearance (located at the end of the makeup aisle) for only .37 each.  There was a .75/1 colgate toothpaste 4 oz. or larger coupon in the 10-03 S.S. insert.  If you have this coupon, you can get it free!  From what I can tell from reading online, you could use this coupon for this toothpaste, but I don't have the actual coupon myself to check.  This was just the regular Colgate, so no printables would work for it.

    * Don't make a special trip for this because it could all be bought up for all I know, I just wanted to give you the head's up in case you are headed there already.

    October Financial Update

Well, I figured I would go ahead and post this since I just got done paying our monthly bills and sending off our Mortgage payment.  After I paid all our bills, I decided to send an extra $1,000 towards the principle on our home loan.

*We have very low monthly bills- we do not pay for cable, we have no car payments, and we do not pay for any child care right now since I am home with my son.  We also only have one phone with a very basic package.  We did not have $1,000 left over after our bills from just one month, I have not paid very much extra on our mortgage for about the last 3-4 months, so it has been accumulating for several months.

We hope to have our mortgage paid off in 2 years.  Last month we had paid off 56.7%.  After I paid our mortgage with the extra principle payment, we are at 59.9% paid off.

*Please note that we live in a low cost of living area.  Our mortgage was not as high as many individual's to start out with.  We have been paying on our house for 6 years this Thanksgiving.

If you are a blogger and have a post about your personal financial goals/ progress, feel free to leave a link in the comment area to that post on your blog.  Even if you do not have a blog, feel free to share in the comments area!

Combining Proteins: Save Money And Healthier Too!

Serving at least one meatless meal (or more) per week can be a great way to start cutting down on your grocery budget, since meat is generally the highest priced ingredient that we purchase at the grocery store.  Serving your family less meat is also healthier.  Animal proteins are often high in calories, fat, saturated fat, and cholesterol.  They also do not provide any fiber to your family's diet.  (I also did several speeches in college about how eating less meat is better for the environment too!  It is a win-win situation in almost every way!)  But what about your growing child's protein needs?  The truth is, most Americans get way more protein in their diets than they need, so going meatless one or two nights per week is probably just fine for your family.

However, what if you have a child or other family member who does not eat very much meat to start with?  My little boy would truly be a vegetarian by choice if we allowed it.  Of course, when he is older he can make that decision for himself, but right now he is just picky about what he eats, so we try to encourage him to eat as many different foods from every food group as possible.  In case you are worried about making sure your family is getting enough protein, I am going to tell you how to combine proteins to ensure that you are meeting your and your family's protein needs:
    • Combining proteins really does not have to be a complicated science.  It used to be believed that complementary proteins needed to be consumed together at every meal to ensure adequate protein intake.  It is now believed that as long as complementary proteins are eaten in the same day, that they will combine to form the proteins that your body needs.
What Are Some Complementary Proteins?  Most people think of rice and beans when they think of complementary proteins.  And that is true, but that is not your only option.  Here are two images showing foods that can be combined to form complete proteins:

(I hope you can read the top graphic!  I had to really shrink it to get it to fit)
Follow the arrows to see which food categories can be combined:
    • You can combine Animal Proteins with Grains
    • Animal Proteins or Soy Products with Legumes (such as beans, lentils, split peas)
    • Soy Products with Nuts and Seeds
    • Grains with Legumes
    • And Legumes with Nuts and seeds can be combined
All of these combinations are complementary proteins.
